Stiffer penalties await drunk drivers!

Stiffer penalties await those, who cause death due to recklessness or driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, in the newly-passed Road Transport Bill 2020.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, however, says the law was not meant to deprive people of their right to consume alcohol.
Among amendments to the new law include those caught with causing death due to dangerous or reckless driving can face up to 10 years jail and fined up to RM 50,000, if convicted.
They could also have their driving licence suspended for 5 years.
The Health Ministry has been stepping up intervention activities in northern states to curb the spread of Covid-19 linked to the Tawar cluster.
It says the prevention activities organised have been focused in Kedah, where 85 percent of the cases under the cluster has occurred.
Still in Kedah, a school in Kulim has been ordered to close for a week following new Covid-19 cases detected in the area.
So far, 4 schools in Kubang Pasu and 1 school in Padang Terap were closed due to the Sivagangga cluster outbreak.
Police have refuted claims of double standards in handling the case of a VIP's daughter, who allegedly violated recovery MCO rules at a pub in TTDI, KL.
They clarified that nearly 30 patrons were issued with RM1,000 compounds, including the VIP's daughther.
