COVID Spike: PM calls for calm

The PM has called for calm, amid the spike in COVID-19 cases.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin assured that the govt is committed to doing everything possible to control the spread of the pandemic.

He adds that most of the new cases involved prison detainees, as well as in TEMCO areas and from the clusters that have already been identified and controlled.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister for Security, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the govt has NO plans to re-introduce a nationwide Movement Control Order. 

He also ruled out a need for inter-state travel restrictions. 

This, daily infections hit a new record of 317 cases yesterday, while the death toll has risen to 137.

No nationwide school shutdown

The govt has no immediate plans to close all schools nationwide, amid the spike in COVID-19 cases. 

Health Director General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says for now, it's enough to only close schools where confirmed cases have been reported. 

He also urged students, teachers and school staff to continue to follow all the relevant safety SOPs.

US president Donald Trump has tweeted a video message from his hospital room, days after confirming he has COVID-19

He says he's fine and hopes to get well soon. 

Meanwhile, the US Senate has announced that it will go into recess until October 19th, after three Republican lawmakers tested positive for the coronavirus
