The battle against the pandemic is giving health workers sleepless nights

Oct 29, 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic is starting to take a toll on our frontliners.

Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says he and other ministry personnel are having to deal with mental and physical fatigue, including sleepless nights, after months of helping Malaysians battle the coronavirus.

However, he says the staff continue to persevere, adding that everyone is doing the best they can.

This, as 801 new Covid-19 infections were reported nationwide yesterday, bringing the total number of active cases around the country above the 10 thousand mark.

Eight new fatalities were also reported yesterday, bringing the overall death toll to 246.

Meanwhile, four new coronavirus clusters have been detected – one each in Selangor, Sabah, Sarawak and Johor.

The CMCO is working

The recent CMCO in the Klang Valley and Sabah has managed to reduce the Covid-19 infectivity rate.

The Health Director-General says the infectivity rate is now at 1.1, down from 2.2 when the third wave started in September.

However, Dr Hisham says this is still not good enough as the figure should be brought down to less than 1.0, which will help flatten the curve.

Students can continue overseas studies

Malaysian students are allowed to travel abroad to resume their studies overseas.

However, they must provide documents of proof for the Immigration Department.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says this includes a copy of the study schedule and an official letter from the university.

He says even parents are allowed to follow these students overseas to help them settle in.
