All educational institutions in JB to be closed

Oct 31, 2020

Johor Bahru has been declared a COVID-19 red zone, after reporting a rise in infections.

As such, starting tomorrow, all educational institutions in the district will be ordered to shut for two weeks.

The Education Ministry says students residing at their university campuses are allowed to return home.

Meanwhile, those who wish to stay at their dorms can do so and will be put under the care of their respective wardens.

Don’t withdraw from EPF Account 1

Contributors have been urged not to withdraw funds from their EPF Account 1 savings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

EPF says they can instead make an appointment with its retirement service officers to help plan their finances.

This is after PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government was not keen to allow Account 1 withdrawals, despite many facing financial challenges due to the coronavirus.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin says this is because it could lead to even bigger financial problems in the future.

Elections not a good idea now

Now is not a suitable time for any elections, especially amid Malaysia’s spike in COVID-19 cases.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says however, if an election had to be held, it must follow strict SOPs.

These include campaigning in small groups, disallowing home visits, and enforcing travel restrictions between state and district borders.
