States agree to 'No Plastic Bag' initiative

Nov 20, 2020

All state governments are in support of the ‘No Plastic Bag’ initiative to cut down on pollution.

The Environment and Water Ministry says members of the National Council Meeting for Local Government have agreed to implement the move at all premises nationwide, by imposing a minimum 20 sen charge for customers who insist on a plastic bag.

The initiative will be carried out in two phases over the next five years, to first ensure full compliance by big businesses like supermarkets and fast-food restaurants before eventually moving on to grocery stores and pasar malam.

MySejahtera is working

More than nine thousand Covid-19 cases in the country were detected via the MySejahtera app.

Most of these cases were identified using contact tracing, while a smaller portion was confirmed through the app’s self-assessment feature.

The Health Ministry says the MySejahtera application also played a key role in detecting recent cases that originated from a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, with more than 200 infections from this cluster identified using the app.

Six out of ten Malaysians feel the country is heading in the right direction amid the ongoing battle against Covid-19.

The latest survey by research firm Ipsos also found that Malaysians are more concerned about the coronavirus compared to people in other countries.

77% of respondents here said they’re worried about Covid-19 - higher than the 66% in Britain and just 46% in the US…even though these two countries are more severely affected.
