Monitoring stepped up as refugees are reportedly heading towards Langkawi

The Police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency have stepped up their monitoring in waters off Langkawi, following reports that several refugee boats are heading towards the island.

However, the Langkawi police chief says so far no boats have been spotted in the area. 

Earlier reports claimed that some 200 Rohingya refugees in four small boats had recently set sail towards Malaysian waters.
