Peninsula Malaysia has banned the import of cats and dogs from Sarawak.

Jul 04, 2017

Peninsula Malaysia has banned the import of cats and dogs from Sarawak, amid a rabies outbreak in Serian.

The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department says the ban is a one way order, so animals from the Peninsular can still be taken to Sarawak.

Sabah issued a similar ban last week.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak govt has approved 100,000 ringgit to boost their rabbies vaccine stocks.

There have been no new cases reported in the state since 3 children were infected last month.

8 teams are also going house-to-house at 4 villages in Serian, checking for cases of dog bites.
