The DPM wants a special committee to be set up immediately.
Sep 15, 2017
The DPM wants a special committee to be set up immediately, to investigate yesterday's tahfiz school fire in KL that killed 23 people.
The Health Ministry earlier said it might set up a special committee on the tragedy, and will bring up the matter to the cabinet at its meeting next Wednesday.
However, the DPM says there's no need to wait for the cabinet meeting, and has volunteered to chair the committee himself.
Following the tragedy, authorities nationwide have embarked on a quest to weed out unsafe religious schools.
The Kelantan Bomba has so far found 17 tahfiz schools operating in the state without permits from the department.
In Johor, the Sultan has decreed that all schools at high risk of catching fire should be identified.
This includes madrasahs, tuition centres, boarding schools, primary and secondary schools.
