PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called for a review of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

Jun 09, 2018

PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called for a review of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

In an interview with Japan's "Nikkei", Tun M says smaller economies like Malaysia were at a disadvantage under the current terms.

He adds that the trade pact should take into consideration the development levels of various countries, and weaker economies must be allowed to protect their products.

The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership will reduce tariffs in countries that together amount to more than 13 % of the global economy.
