News Wrap Up: PD MP steps down from his post to make way for DSAI to contest in a by-election.

Sep 12, 2018

PD MP steps down from his post, to make way for DSAI to contest in a by-election.

Port Dickson MP Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah has stepped down from his post, to make way for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest in a by-election.

This is part of the plan to get Anwar back into Parliament, and ultimately become the next Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Permatang Pauh MP, and Anwar's daughter Nurul Izzah, will be heading Pakatan Harapan's election machinery in the by-election.

She will be tasked with ensuring a decent voter turnout for the polls, after the recently-concluded Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections suffered from low voter turnout.

IF Anwar wins the by-election, it will be the first time that a father, wife and daughter will be in Parliament.

PKR's Sec-gen Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail however, says the issue of nepotism does NOT arise, as Nurul, and Pandan MP and Deputy Prime Minister DS Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail were elected by the people.

MOF: unless....

The Finance Ministry says the govt doesn't intend to reduce the price of petrol to 1.50 per liter, unless the global price of crude oil drops as well.

It adds that a detailed petrol subsidy system is being worked out and it will be announced once finalised.

The subsidy will be given to those eligible, for use of motorcycles of 125cc and below, as well as cars with 1300cc engines and below.

In other news:

The Dewan Negara has rejected the govt's Bill to repeal the Anti-Fake News Act.

The Senate doesn't have the ability to permanently reject Bills passed by the lower house, but it can delay these, by voting them down or sending them back for amendments.

This is the first time the Dewan Negara had rejected a bill.

It previously only instructed for Bills to be sent back to the Dewan Rakyat for amendments.
