Sep 25, 2018

All unregistered tahfiz schools in KL will be shut down.

The Federal Territories Minister says the govt will also come up with stricter rules for residential schools, especially tahfiz centres.

He says it's to protect the welfare of such students, and the image of religious institutions, following recent high-profile controversies.

Last week, a tahfiz school principal was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting 9 students.

The school was also found to be unlicensed.

Earlier, the PM's Dept said the Federal Govt is powerless to stop illegal tahfiz schools as they fall under the jurisdiction of local authorities.

The political secretary is reportedly contesting for a postion in the party's central leadership council.
