Police to confirm death of Abu Sayyaf leader

Dec 11, 2016

Police are trying to verify claims that a top Abu Sayyaf leader was one of the 3 gunmen killed in the shootout with Malaysian authorities off Sabah's coast recently.

Philippines officials earlier identified him as Abraham Hamid, who was responsible for kidnapping several foreigners from a southern Philippine resort last year.

He's also believed to be behind the abduction of four Indonesian crewmen back in April.

In addition to the 3 killed, another 2 were captured and 2 more are on the run with a hostage.

The police have stepped up efforts to find the missing trio.
