Malaysia expels North Korean Ambassador

Mar 05, 2017

Malaysia has declared North Korean envoy Kang Chol Persona Non Grata, and gave him 48 hours to leave the country.

The Foreign Ministry says says this is in response to his diplomatic handling of the North Korean national who was killed at KLIA2 last month.

Wisma Putra adds it made the decision yesterday, after the ambassador failed to turn up for a meeting with a ministry official.

Meanwhile, police have dismissed claims by a North Korean national who was detained and deported over the murder, that he was the victim of a conspiracy "to damage the honour" of his country.

The Deputy IGP says police were only doing their job in investigating all aspects of the case.
