Train service still suspended following floods and landslide

Jan 01, 2017

KTMB intercity train services between Kuala Krai and Gua Musang in Kelantan are still suspended until further notice, due the the floods, as well as a landslide.

Meanwhile, the main road linking Kuala Krai and Kota Bharu, which was closed to light vehicles at a stretch at Sungai Durian yesterday, has been reopened to traffic.

This, as the flood situation in Kelantan has eased slightly, with about 50 flood evacuees allowed to return home.

About 1,820 people are still seeking shelter at relief centers, namely in Kuala Krai, Jeli and Tanah Merah.

The water levels of 3 major rivers in Kelantan showed a drop this morning, but the levels of Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang continued to rise.

Over in Terengganu, the number of flood evacuees has increased from some 3,200 last night to more than 4,000.

Hulu Terengganu is still the worst hit, while Kemaman, Marang, Besut, Setiu and Dungun are also affected.

The water levels of 3 rivers in the Terengganu were last reported to still be above the danger point, while those of 4 others breached the alert stage.

This, as the floods have forced more than 2 dozen schools in Terengganu and about 15 others in Kelantan to postpone the start of the new school term scheduled for today.
