Missing radioactive canisters found

Feb 14, 2017

2 radioactive canisters that have been missing since last week, have been found at the Seri Era Apartment in Shah Alam with the seal open.

The Atomic Energy Licensing Board has urged all residents of the apartment to contact the board so they can have their blood tested, as the gamma rays from the canisters can cause various health problems.

Among the symptoms suffered by those exposed to the gamma ray are dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Meanwhile, a security expert has warned there may be more to the theft.

The specialist told the NST, the radioactive material, Iridium 192, was highly sought after by terror groups as it can be used to make dirty bombs.

The canisters were stolen from an oil and gas exploration company.
