More birds contract H5N1 in Kelantan

Mar 16, 2017

The Health Ministry says it's been informed that more birds have contracted H5N1 bird flu in Kelantan.

It told the NST there's also the possibility the virus could spread further among poultry in the state, although there have been no cases of human infections.

This, as the Education Ministry is awaiting instructions from the Health Ministry, about whether it needs to close schools in Kelantan because of the bird flu outbreak.

Meanwhile, the Health Director General says chicken in Kelantan is still safe to consume, as long as it's properly cooked, since the H5N1 virus is destroyed when it's exposed to temperatures of over 70 degrees celcius.
