Chairman of Johor Housing and Local Government Commitee resigns

Apr 20, 2017

Datuk Abdul Latif Bandi has resigned as chair of the Johor Housing and Local Government Commitee.

This, after he was charged yesterday with 33 counts of graft, for allegedly abetting in attempts to convert bumiputra lots into non-bumiputra ones.

The former exco member was released today on a 2 million ringgit bail.

This, as the Johor Menteri Besar says he has accepted Datuk Abdul Latif's resignation, and respects his decision.

Meanwhile, the MACC will make several recommendations to the Johor government, to help it improve its state housing system.

Its chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad says this is to prevent land scandals from happening again.

Separately, the MACC says it will call in whoever is necessary to help in its probe into MARA's purchase of property in Australia.

It says those who are called in will not be limited to only high-profile individuals.

This, following reports that Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal could be one of those questioned, as he was the previous Rural and Regional Development Minister, who oversaw MARA.
