20 thousand Malaysians die every year, from smoking-related ailments

May 30, 2017

An estimated 20 thousand Malaysians die every year, from smoking-related ailments.

The Consumer Association of Penang says the figure is worrying, especially since the number of smokers is believed to be on the rise.

It adds that each smoker spends an average of 178 ringgit on cigarettes a month, which has a huge impact on household expenditure.

This, as the World Health Organisation, speaking ahead of World No Tobacco Day tomorrow, said smoking and other tobacco use kills more than seven million people around the world every year.
