The Armed Forces have stepped up security control and moved its assets towards national borders and territorial waters.
This, following bomb attacks in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The Defence Ministry says this includes deploying two additional patrol vessels in Sabah waters, as well as stationing its Quick Reaction Force with other troops operating in the islands off Sabah.
Meanwhile, 28 Malaysian have reportedly joined IS-backed militants, in the battle against Philippine forces in Mindanao.
According to the Malay Mail, they travelled there early last week for a religious event, but more are believed to have gone there separately.
10 Indonesians and a Singaporean are also said to be involved with the militants.
This, as 6 suspected militants have been arrested in Kelantan, Selangor, Perak and Kedah.
This includes 2 relatives of a man who is believed to be the top Malaysian militant in Syria.
