A woman is feared to have been attacked by a crocodile

Sep 25, 2016

A search and rescue operation has been launched for a woman, who's feared to have been attacked by a crocodile in Kinabatangan, Sabah.

She was reportedly collecting oil palm seeds along a river there, before she started calling for help from villagers, yesterday.

Witnesses say they saw an animal like a crocodile dragging her into the river.

Meanwhile, Malaysia has submitted a proposal to allow the international trade of crocodiles from the wild, at a conference on International Trade in Endangered Species, in South Africa.

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry says it is to enable a strictly controlled population while retaining viable wild populations.

This, as the wild population of saltwater crocodile has increased significantly over the last 30 years due to successful conservation actions.
