Malaysia to propose UN resolution to create safe zone for Rohingyas

Oct 17, 2017

Malaysia will propose a UN resolution, to create a safe zone for Rohingya refugees to safely return to their homeland.

The Deputy Prime Minister says this safe zone will need to be monitored by UN observers or other security officials.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi adds, there are fears the Rohingya refugee issue will become a prolonged humanitarian crisis, if no concrete steps are taken to address it now.

Among the other measures Malaysia will be implementing, is the creation of a humanitarian and welfare attache at the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka, to manage relief efforts for the refugees who have fled to Bangladesh.
