Government considering to make vaccination for children compulsory

Jul 27, 2017

The Health Ministry is considering making it compulsory for children to be vaccinated, as a pre-condition for enrollment into pre-school.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam says the move, similar to what is done in countries like Australia, will help stop the spread of contagious diseases.

For now, however, the government will stick to education and counselling parents on the need to have their kids vaccinated.

Recent figures show that nearly 1,600 kids did not receive vaccination in 2016, up from 1,500 the previous year.
