Almost 700 babies abandoned nationwide

Jul 25, 2017

Close to 700 babies were abandoned nationwide, over a six year period up till December last year.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says Selangor recorded the highest number of cases, with 157.

It was followed by Sabah, Johor, KL and Sarawak.

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim says of the figure, only about 35 babies were left at the eight designated baby-hatches, with the rest abandoned elsewhere.
