Penang bans entry of dogs from Perak and Sarawak
Jul 19, 2017
Penang has taken immediate steps to ban the entry of animals, especially dogs from Perak and Sarawak, following rabies cases in these two states .
The Veterinary Services Department will also be setting up roadblocks, to monitor the entry of dogs from Perak.
Officials say even though Penang is free from rabies, it is taking precautionary measures to keep the state safe.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has denied rumours, that there's been a sixth rabies victim.
It confirmed, there've only been five cases of human infections, the latest being a 52-year-old man in Serian, Sarawak, who was bitten by a dog in early May.
Four other children were also infected, before succumbing to the disease recently.
The Ministry also says the two girls, who were bitten by a rabid dog in Kuala Sepetang, Perak, are currently doing well.
However, they will remain under observation for at least two months, to ensure they're free of the disease.
