UNICEF applauds setting up of Special Court for sexual offences against children
Jun 23, 2017
UNICEF has applauded the setting up of the Special Court for sexual offences against children, as well as the special holding room for child witnesses.
It says this is a tangible step towards having systems and structures necessary to protect child victims of sexual crimes.
The UN agency also offered suggestions for additional improvements, including having dedicated and experienced judges who are specially trained in child behaviour.
They've also proposed special procedures for collection of evidence from underaged witnesses, in order to reduce the number of interviews and statements they have to give.
