Operation against illegal foreign workers to be launched at midnight

Jun 30, 2017

The Immigration Department will be launching a massive nationwide operation against illegal foreign workers.

The crackdown will commence, as soon as the deadline for E-card registration ends at midnight tonight.

This, after only about 140 thousand illegals were registered for the cards so far, which allows them to be temporarily re-hired legally.

The figure is well below the Department's target of 600 thousand.

Separately, the Immigration Department's proposed fine for those who lose their passports due to carelessness, will be implemented soon.

It adds that the move has also been well received by the Home Ministry, as a way to get people to take better care of what is an important document.

Under the proposal, those who lose their passports for the first time will be fined 200 ringgit, with the amount increasing to a thousand ringgit for repeat offenders.
