Doctors will be allowed take unrecorded leave to serve in Sulawesi

Malaysia is stepping up aid to earthquake-struck Indonesia, by allowing doctors to take unrecorded leave, if they wish to help with relief work.

The Health Ministry says this permission is extended to all doctors under the Health Ministry and Education Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Red Crescent has launched a humanitarian fund to help the victims in Sulawesi, with a target of RM2 million.

The death toll from the devastating earthquake stands at over 1,400.

No one can be blamed for Puchong drowning incident

The de-facto Deputy Law Minister has urged the public to stop blaming any parties in the tragedy where six divers died while trying to save a teenager in Puchong. 

Mohamed Hanipa Maidin said what happened was an accident and beyond anyone's control. 

Meanwhile, the teenager's body was found yesterday evening and has been laid to rest.

Police only act on ‘sedition’ if reports lodged

The Deputy Home Minister wants Malaysians to stop bashing the police for arresting people under the Sedition Act.

Datuk Aziz Jamman said the cops are only doing their jobs; they have to make an arrest if multiple reports are made.

While reiterating he doesn't support the Barisan Nasional era act, Aziz said the controversial Sedition Act will remain until the Cabinet decides to abolish it.

This follows the arrest of an UMNO man who allegedly insulted the Prime Minister on social media.

Melaka to address 'snakes' issue at zoo

The Melaka government decided to take over the Melaka Zoo and Safari because many animals were being eaten by snakes. 

King cobras and pythons from the nearby forested areas would sneak into the zoo at night and feast. 

The Melaka Menteri Besar says they will reveal how many animals were eaten after an audit is completed.

Dog heads used for rabies testing, says Miri Mayor

The mayor of Miri, Sarawak has denied council workers are on a stray dog killing spree, after the carcasses of headless canines were found in drains. 

He explained the dogs had been humanely euthanised, then had their heads removed to obtain brain tissue sample for rabies testing. 

However, he didn't explain why the carcasses were left in drains.
