And so Parliament begins...
Jul 16, 2018
The 14th Parliament kicked off today, with Barisan Nasional taking the role of opposition for the first time in its history.
The opposition started the session by staging a walkout before the swearing-in ceremony, to protest the appointment of Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof as the Dewan Speaker.

They claim that Datuk Ariff's name was not submitted to the House Secretariat in the required 14 days before the opening day.
However, the Secretary confirmed that she did receive the nomination in time on July 2nd.
They returned later to complete the ceremony.

However, not everyone took part in the walkout - Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and two others stayed in their seats.
Khairy said it was not the best way to protest.
Meanwhile, the transition wasn't easy for some people who are now in government.

Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng accidentally entered the Dewan Rakyat using the entryway for Opposition lawmakers.
He said it was a force of habit, having been an opposition MP for 30 years.
