Govt considers new political funding law

The govt is coming up with a new law to regulate political funding. 

PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad acknowledges that political parties DO need money to survive, but it can be abused. 

"When you give supporters the right to provide money to political parties, they may be giving money in the hopes that when the political party wins, they would be favoured - that amounts to corruption."

The govt is looking at political funding systems overseas, including in Germany, where the govt gives funds to political parties for elections.

However, he ruled out adopting a US-style lobbying system as it's prone to corruption. 

Mat Sabu: Govt to reinvestigate mystery deaths and disappearances

Defence Minister Mohd Sabu says the govt will reinvestigate cases of mysterious disappearances and deaths in Malaysia.

He specifically mentioned the cases of Amri Che Mat and Pastor Raymond Koh.

EC sets dates for Sg Kandis by-election

The Sungai Kandis state by-election in Selangor has been set for Saturday, August 4th.

The Election Comission also set nomination day for July 21st, giving contesting parties a campaign period of 2 weeks. 

The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant, after incumbent, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of PKR passed away due to cancer. 

Fine for man who wed 11-year-old girl

The 41-year-old man, who married an 11-year old girl, has been fined 1,800 ringgit for marrying without approval and also getting into a polygamous marriage without consent.

He pleaded guilty to both charges.

5th boy rescued from Thai cave

Rescuers have successfully brought out another of the boys, who are trapped in a flooded cave in Northern Thailand, along with their football coach.

4 of the boys were rescued yesterday.
