Sg Kandis By-Election Candidates Confirmed

"Dengan ini saya mengumumkan calon bertanding di PRK Dun Sungai Kandis – Datuk Lokman Adam dari BN, K. Moorthy, BEBAS dan ketiga Zawawi Mughni daripada PKR"

The Election Commission made the announcement, after nominations for the Sg Kandis by-election closed at 10am this morning. 

It sees a 3-way fight between Pakatan, BN and Murthy, an independent candidate. 

A rep from Parti Rakyat Malaysia turned up at the nomination centre, but he did NOT submit his nomination papers. 

Polling day falls on August 4th. 

MCA May Contest in Balakong By-Election

BN says it may field a candidate from MCA for the Balakong by-election. 

Meanwhile, the Selangor state speaker will officially inform the Election Commission about the Balakong seat's vacancy in the coming week. 

The seat fell vacant after incumbent, Eddie Ng of DAP was killed in a road accident. 

Suspects Arrested Over ADUN Death Threat

Police have have arrested two suspects, from Kelantan and Selangor for allegedly making death threats against a Penang state lawmaker. 

DAP assemblywoman, Syerleena Abdul Rashid allegedly received the threats at her service centre earlier this month.

Businesses Want Talks Over Black School Shoes

Businesses want to hold talks with the Education Ministry, about the switch from white school shoes to black ones. 

They told The Star, it's to help minimise their losses, as retailers still have a lot of white shoes stocked up. 

Among others, the businesses are hoping that the ministry adopts a grace period, to give them time to clear their existing stock. 

Miri Woman Almost Dies in Attempted Snatch-Theft

A 31-year-old woman in Miri, Sarawak almost died, after her hair became tangled in a motorcycle's wheel during a snatch-theft attempt. 

She was dragged on the road for a brief distance, before the suspect lost control of his bike and fell off. 

Thai Govt May Control Movies About the 12 Stranded Boys

Thailand's govt reportedly wants to control how any potential movies portray the rescue of the 12 boys and their football coach from a flooded cave.
