Najib files appeal against High Court's dismissal of gag order

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's lawyers have filed an appeal against the KL High Court, for refusing to issue a gag order on the media from publishing anything related to Najib's pending case.

The appeal will be heard at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya.

On Friday, The High Court had dismissed Najib's application for a gag order, after finding his application to be unsustainable.

The former Prime Minister is facing seven criminal charges over funds belonging to SRC International, to all of which he claimed trial.

G2G approach in the hunt for Jho Low

Malaysia has resorted to government-to-government dealings to track down Jho Low.

The Home Ministry says the move will be used in cases where Malaysia doesn't have mutual legal assistance agreements in criminal matters.

This, as Jho Low has been constantly on the move, which has made it even more difficult for authorities to nab the businessman.

Malaysia had sent intelligence officers to China the last time he was rumoured to be there, but they were unsuccessful in locating him.

National Civics Bureau and National Service abolished

The government has agreed to abolish the National Civics Bureau, as well as discontinue the National Service programme with immediate effect.

Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman says all resources and manpower from both, will be assigned to other relevant ministries.

Pakatan Harapan has been under pressure to terminate the bureau, over suspicions that the previous administration had set it up for propaganda.

Tolls to remain for now

The government won't be abolishing highway tolls just yet, due to the country's financial state.

Works Minister, Baru Bian says the move must be postponed due to the costs involved, which would be more than RM400 billion.

However, he assures that Pakatan Harapan will still fulfill its pledge to abolish tolls, as promised in its GE14 manifesto.

Police step up their use of English

The IGP says police will use English for daily briefings and operations, starting from today.

This, after Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had asked to enhance the force's English proficiency, and to bring it on par with the rest of the world.

Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun adds that all senior officers have already begun a five-day course.
