News Wrap-up: Najib's new judge and a tease on Jho Low

Aug 02, 2018

New judge to preside Najib's SRC International case

Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali is the new High Court judge to hear Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's case in relation to SRC International.

This follows the transfer of the previous judge who recorded Najib’s plea, to the new civil court effective today.

The previous judge who presided the case, had been asked to recuse himself from the case, as his brother is an UMNO member from Najib's home state, Pahang.

Last month, Najib pleaded not guilty to four counts of criminal breach of trust and abuse of power, involving SRC International funds of up to RM42 million.

Youth and Sports Ministry to halt projects under 15% done

Projects under the Youth and Sports Ministry that are under 15 per cent complete, will be stopped and reopened for tender.

Its Deputy Minister Steven Sim says most of the contracts awarded by the ministry last year, were via direct negotiations.

However, former Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, insists that these directly-awarded contracts were not an automatic sign of corruption.

Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos is calling for prison reforms, after enduring almost a month in a cell.

The Sungai Besar UMNO division chief suggests prisoners be allowed to smoke when they receive visits, or once a day.
