Government urged to increase minimum wage

Oct 25, 2017

The Malay Economic Action Council is asking the government to consider increasing the minimum wage under Budget 2018.

It says the minimum wage should be increased to 1,500 ringgit, as low wages are among the main factors behind people struggling with the rising cost of living.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister is proposing that the cost of hiring domestic helpers be given attention under Budget 2018.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says this is to ease the burden on those who need to employ maids, especially families with many kids.
