Massive data breach reported last month, was from 2014

The data breach involving 46.2 million telco subscribers reported last month, was actually from 2014 and did not involve the latest data.

This is based on the investigations conducted by the police, MCMC and the Personal Data Protection Department.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Bar Council has called for the results of the investigations to be made public.

The Bar says it should also be made mandatory for the public to be notified of data breaches.

It adds that companies and other entities should be more transparent when there are breaches of personal data.
