4.2 million Malaysians have mental illness

4.2 million Malaysian aged 16 and above are said to have mental illness.

This figure also recorded an increase of 11.2 per cent compared to 2006.

The Malaysian Psychiatrist Association the figure is more alarming as the number of schoolchildren who are mentally ill is increasing.

The association adds that the number of cases of suicide due to stress is also increasing.
