Health Minister talks next step for tobacco industry

Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad says cigarette prices will be maintained for now. 

He adds, prices could even increase, if the government decides to raise the excise duty for tobacco products.

Earlier, the National Cancer Society voiced its concerns that cigarette prices could go down, once GST becomes zero-rated from tomorrow. 

Meanwhile, on calls to ban e-cigarettes and vaping, Dr Dzulkefly says the government is looking into the matter seriously.
