New committee to investigate military scandals

The Defence Ministry is setting up an investigations committee, to look into scandals involving the military. 

Minister Mohamad Sabu says this includes the controversial purchase of Scorpene submarines under the Barisan Nasional administration. 

The two French submarines were bought in 2002 for nearly 1 billion euros, but the deal has been hit by allegations of massive kickbacks. 

In addition to the investigations, Mohamad Sabu says the committee will also ensure that the ministry is free from corruption.
