Out with ICERD
Nov 23, 2018
Malaysia is not ratifying ICERD, or the International Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Racial Discrimination.
The Prime Minister said the government will abide by the Federal Constitution which upholds a social contract agreed by representatives of all races, when Malaysia was formed.
ICERD has faced strong objections from Malay and Muslim groups, with UMNO, PAS and several NGOs planning a massive protest on December 8th.
Separately, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has defended the government's decision to amend the National Security Council Act, and not abolish it.
He said doing away with the NSC could encourage gangsters and criminals to go wild.
Pakatan Harapan had listed the act as "tyrannical" in its election manifesto, and promised to abolish it.

Free water in Selangor only for B40 group in 2019
It's no longer free water for all in Selangor!
From next year, only the B40 group won't have to pay for water, unless they use more than 25 cubic meters of water.
The state Menteri Besar says this is to stay true to the original aim of the plan, which is to provide water to underpriviledge groups.
