Police radar on IS women and children too

Police will not only focus on men on their hunt for IS militants, but also women and children.

Bukit Aman says this, as more women and children are being used by radical groups to carry out attacks.

The Special Branch counter terrorism chief gave the example of the church suicide bombing in Surabaya, Indonesia in May, that was carried out by a family, which included two girls aged nine and 12.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman has detected nearly 100 Malaysians keen on heading to Syria and southern Philippines to join IS.

This, after monitoring some 4,000 social media pages.

Uni students make most of commercial scam syndicates in Selangor

University students are becoming tools of commercial crime syndicates like Macau scammers.

Selangor police say a number of uni students have allowed their names to be used to open up bank accounts for these scammers.

These students are paid RM2,500 for the use of their names. 

Police warn that anyone caught doing so can face criminal charges for abetting.

B40 health fund to cover 36 major illnesses

The healthcare coverage under the B40 Health Protection Fund will be extended to cover 36 major illnesses, instead of four as announced earlier.

The Finance Ministry says the scheme, effective January 1st next year, will provide the B40 group with up to 14 days of hospitalisation benefits.

The free protection will be set at RM50 per day or RM700 per annum.

Malaysian air steward jailed in UK for money laundering

A Malaysian air steward has been jailed in the UK for a year, after pleading guilty to money laundering charges.

He tried to leave the country with over RM807,000 in cash, claiming that he had initially brought in the money for shopping, but he was too tired to spend it.
