Sri Maha Mariamman temple developers deny hiring 'thugs'

Nov 28, 2018

The developer linked to the recent violence at a Hindu temple in Subang Jaya has denied that it hired, or authorised the hiring of 'thugs' to initiate the trouble.

It says, the personnel on site were directed to provide logistical support and assist in the orderly relocation of the temple.

The company adds it will continue to cooperate with the police on the matter.

This, after the Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that two lawyers linked to the developer, allegedly paid off a group of people to tresspass and secure the temple.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister says the temple's devotees should not have taken matters into their own hands.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says when the alleged thugs appeared at the scene, they should have alerted the police.

Meanwhile, on claims that the police were slow to act on the crisis, he says the cops have to be cautious in handling sensitive religious issues.

This means that contributors should have at least RM240,000 in their EPF accounts, once they reach 55-years-old.

This is the minimum amount needed by contributors, to support their basic needs for 20 years upon retirement.

Loke: Any hike in bus fares musn't burden the people

The Transport Minister says any hike in express bus fares must not burden the people.

Anthony Loke was commenting after his Ministry said that fares could go up by between 10 to 30 per cent.

"There is no decision on this. It's merely a suggestion by bus operators, but of course, any sort of fee hike will not be welcomed by the public. Whatever decision that we make, we must consider the demands of both sides."

The Deputy Minister told Parliament yesterday that such an increase would hopefully improve drivers' work conditions and and lead to fewer accidents.

The last time that express bus fares were reviewed, was nearly 10 years ago.
