Selangor MB assures all parties will be heard on Sri Maha Mariamman's relocation

Nov 29, 2018

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has assured that the Sri Maha Mariamman temple will not be relocated until a solution is reached by all relevant parties.

He says discussions will begin by next Tuesday at the latest.

He has called for calm and cautioned against carrying out further protests at the temple area.

He also refuted claims that the state government will use tax payers money to take over the land housing the temple.

Separately, the Prime Minister says the faction of the temple fighting to remain at its current site still has legal options available.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the matter could go all the way to the Federal Court.

Tun adds that the Federal Government cannot intefere in the land dispute, as the Selangor state has full jurisdiction

However, he promised to look into the dispute to ensure that the violence which erupted at the temple this week doesn't happen again.

Police welcome IPCMC set up

The IGP says police are finally ready to accept the setting up of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission, IPCMC, but with a few conditions.

This includes having a police officer as part of the commission to ensure that the welfare of the police force is taken into consideration.

The IPCMC was first proposed in 2005, following a spate of deaths in police custody.

However, its formation was strongly opposed by senior officers at the time.
