PTPTN must get your permission before deducting your salary to make repayments. 

MTUC told Malay Mail there must also be a written agreement between the borrower, the employer and PTPTN, authorising them to make the deduction.

It also clarified the Employment Act ensures deductions made for any purpose cannot exceed more than 50 percent of the worker's basic salary. 

The new deduction system announced by PTPTN yesterday sees a maximum deduction of 15 percent, once the borrower earns above 8,000 ringgit per month.

Among those who will receive the letter, are registered tax payers who've yet to submit their Income Tax Return Form, are missing a few years or have under-declared or over-claimed.

And, restaurant owners are still trying to fight the smoking ban.

Several coffee shop and eatery operators are proposing they be allowed to designate smoking areas instead, saying the govt should respect smokers' rights too.
