PTPTN's new salary deduction scheme postponed

The new PTPTN repayment scheme will be suspended for the time being.
The Education Minister says this is to allow stakeholders to give their feedback regarding the new scheme.
The scheme has been heavily criticised by several quarters, including borrowers who had already negotiated their own repayment schedules.
Under the new scheme, PTPTN borrowers earning above RM2,000 monthly will see mandatory pay cuts of between 2 and 15 percent.
Yesterday, the PTPTN chairman defended the controversial new mechanism, saying the Fund has the right to make such deductions under the existing loan agreement.
