Highland Towers can't be cleared just yet

Dec 11, 2018

The demolition of the two remaining blocks of the Highland Towers condominiums has been delayed, so that authorities can conduct more comprehensive safety checks on the long-abandoned structures.

The Housing and Local Government Ministry told the Malay Mail the study, which is being conducted together with the Works Ministry, will take at least another three to four months.

It adds that any redevelopment plans will only be finalised after the comprehensive safety study is conducted.

The Ministry's comments come on the 25th anniversary of the Highland Towers disaster - in which one of the three condo blocks collapsed, killing 48 people.
