Najib Not Eyeing UMNO Top Spot

Datuk Seri Najib Razak is not interested in taking the reins at UMNO again, after current president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took garden leave. 

A party supreme council member had suggested for Najib to take over as de-facto leader and opposition leader in the interim.

But Najib said he prefers to focus on the mulitple charges he's facing.

Fewer Exams For Kids

From next month, there will be no more mid-year and final-year exams for children between Standard 1 and 3.

The Education Director General says this will ensure teachers focus on character-building for the young students, instead of exam preparation.

As such, classroom-based assessment, which has been around since 2011, will be strengthened so that young kids can experience fun learning. 

New Minister Honoured

Yeo Bee Yin has been named among the 10 people who mattered the most this year, by renowned scientific journal, Nature. 

The Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister was honoured for her efforts in reforming Malaysia's governance of its environment and natural resources. 

35-year-old Bee Yin is the youngest female minister in the cabinet.
