Govt okays establishment of National Financial Crime Centre

The govt has agreed to the establishment of the National Financial Crime Centre in a bid to tackle money laundering activities.

The centre is expected to be operational by the middle of next year, and its establishment involves the coordination of the MACC, Customs, Immigration and Bank Negara.

Illegal outflow of cash from the country is estimated to reach billions of ringgit each year.

Sabah is now free of bird flu.

The Sabah govt declared the state, particularly the Tuaran district free of the influenza.

The disease was first detected there on August 3rd.

And, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs ministry has received public complaints of a 15 to 20 per cent hike in prices of school supplies, especially shoes.

The ministry adds that it knows the exact location of the shops involved, and its enforcement division has been mobilised to investigate the complaints.
