The nationwide smoking ban at eateries starts today.

But the Health Ministry says enforcement officers will focus more on educating the public for now as these policies will take time to implement.

It adds that it wants to step up awareness about the no-smoking policy first.

The Ministry reiterated that for the first 6 months, its officers will not issue fines but it will take note of repeat offenders.

The scope of the Sales and Services Tax will be expanded to cover 4 new types of services effective March 1st.

The Customs Department says they include amusement park operations, securities brokerage and underwriting, cleaning services, and training provision.

It adds companies providing such taxable services with a total value of more than 50 thousand ringgit per annum must be registered with Customs by the end of next month.
