No way around the smoking ban

The smoking ban at all eateries is here to stay.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad says the government is not budging from its position, despite the ban coming under criticism from smokers. 

He also says the government will not consider a suggestion to allow people to smoke at eateries after 10pm, saying this would only be a step back. 

The Minister, however, did not rule out allowing restaurants to open up their own smoking areas for customers, as long as it is three meters away from the premises.

This came as Sabah confirmed that it will implement the smoking ban on February 1st.

Meanwhile, over 13,000 warnings have been issued to offenders, since the smoking ban at eateries was implemented on January 1st. 

Health Ministry enforcement personnel also visited over 30,000 eateries, to raise awareness among restaurant operators and customers.

Mat Sabu: My son's arrest won't affect PH's performance in Camerons

Amanah President Mohamad Sabu says the recent arrest of his son on a drugs offence, is unlikely to become a liability for Pakatan Harapan during the Cameron Highlands by-election.

The Defense Minister says he will let the law take its course, assuring that there will be no special protection for his son.

Meawhile, the cops have also made it clear there will be no special treatment for the Minister's son. 

In fact, KL police chief, Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim says they're seeking to expedite the test on the urine sample, to speed up the investigation.

Doctor resigns after backlash for offensive comments on Kelantan ruler

A doctor working for a medical group in the Klang Valley has resigned, after coming under fire for the offensive comments he made on social media about the Kelantan ruler.

It comes after three people, including a woman, were arrested for similar comments on Facebook and Twitter. 

All three are being investigated under the Sedition Act. 

They were earlier also either sacked or suspended by their respective companies.

7-month-old dies after "falling" at babysitter's

A seven-month-old boy has died from severe head injuries, believed to have been sustained while under the care of his babysitter in Setapak, KL.

The cops say the post-mortem showed the boy's injuries could have been caused by a fall, adding that they've yet to make any arrests. 

Separately, a babysitter in Sibu, Sarawak has been remanded for four days, on suspicion of having abused a nine-month-old boy. 

The 39-year-old woman was also found to be operating the childcare centre without a license.
