Sultan Abdullah is now officially the new Ruler of Pahang, after being proclaimed the state's sixth Sultan.

He succeeds his ailing father Sultan Ahmad Shah.

This entitles Sultan Abdullah to be on the list for election as the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Rulers will hold a special meeting on January 24th to choose the new King.

They will reconvene on January 31st to decide on the date for the oath-taking ceremony.

This means that contrary to recent rumours, January 31st is not a public holiday!
