School textbook to be revised after uproar

Jan 16, 2019

Textbook Causes Uproar

The Education Ministry will immediately revise certain infographics in a Year 3 textbook that have been accused of promoting victim shaming.

The infographics in the Physical and Health Education Textbook were meant to teach a girl how to protect her modesty, but has been accused of blaming victims of sexual harassment.

The textbook tells girls if they don't take care of their modesty, they will be ostracised by their friends and harm the family's honour.

The govt will issue a correction in the form of a sticker which can be printed and distributed to all schools, and pasted over the original content.

The EPF dividend for 2018 has yet to be announced, but the fund's chairman has hinted it could be lower than 2017's because of market conditions.

EPF declared a dividend rate of 6.9 for conventional savings in 2017, the highest in about 2 decades.

The dividend rates are usually declared in the middle of February each year.

Don't Dump Fish!

Stop dumping unwanted pet fish into Malaysia's waters, especially foreign species, because it's affecting the biodiversity of local fish and rivers.

The Fisheries Department was responding to a recent report that M'sians were dumping unwanted Ikan Bandaraya into rivers and drains where they were burrowing into the ground and weakening the riverbanks.

Ikan Bandaraya, a type of catfish, is cheap to buy at aquariums, but owners usually dump them after a few months because they grow too large and attack other fish.
